WORKS/CREATIVE-LAB

TSG Creative-LAB. 2nd/3rd

Two to three months in which the next generation of makers draws out a way of living, starting from their own questions

Not “what should I make,” but “how do I want to live.” TSG Creative-LAB. is an experimental incubation program spanning two to three months, for young people roughly 15 to 25 years old with an interest in architecture, design, and art. Rather than solving a given assignment, participants start from a question that lives inside them, and reconnect expression with the way they live. Across three phases — “expanding your world,” “facing yourself,” and “making it straightforwardly” — young creators active on the front lines take part as mentors. ASIBA is involved in the program as a planning partner.

Statement: “Creating” and “Living”

A
three-month open lab program for young people aspiring to careers in architecture, design, art, and
other creative fields,
designed to help them explore their
“way of life” through the act of “creating”

TSG Creative-LAB. is a place where you can explore
your “way of life” through
“making.”

Here,
we
engage not only with your work but also with the creation that lies beneath it—
your “way of life.”

Take a moment to notice those times when your heart races with curiosity, or when you feel such
empathy that your body moves
on its own.

Instead
of searching for the “right answer,” start with “your own questions”

From this space,
let’s take that “something you haven’t fully expressed yet” and
share it with the world, together with your peers.

A space for experimental learning and dialogue

Creative-LAB
., a new community for young people aspiring to thrive in the creative fields, offers experimental learning opportunities and a space for dialogue to young people and students (approximately ages 15–25) interested in creative fields such as architecture, design, and art. This community offers, for a limited two-month period, mentoring opportunities with emerging creators; workshops designed to broaden perspectives and refine questions; and a series of lectures by emerging creators who pose their own questions and put them into practice.

“Creative Workshops”
to Refine Your Own Questions and Perspectives: Several workshops will be held to help participants refine their ideas and creative perspectives. These hands-on workshops include lectures on developing ways of thinking, workshops for building skill sets, and sessions on expanding creative possibilities using new tools.

Series of Lectures by Young Creators With the support of the
Japan Design Promotion Organization (JDP), we will host a series of lectures by recipients of the GOOD DESIGN NEW HOPE AWARD and other award winners. The goal is to create opportunities for young creators aspiring to pursue creative work to gain new perspectives and engage with one another by delving deeply into the questions young creators have about “making,” the contexts behind them, and their practical methodologies.

Providing
“Mentoring Opportunities” Led by Young Creators Who Continuously Reflect on Their Own Questions and Practices We will offer mentoring opportunities exclusive to Creative-LAB. participants, featuring young creators, architects, artists, designers, and researchers—who actively embody the concept of “creating and living”—as mentors.

FIG.7

A community
that examines not only “what to create” but also “how to live” Creative-Lab. is a space where participants reconnect their creative work with their way of life, starting not just with “what and how to create,” but with the question, “How do I want to live from here on out?” Through dialogue and challenges with peers of the same generation—as well as with people living their lives while pursuing their own unique forms of creation within society—we aim to support a process of discovering the way of life, perspective, and philosophy behind the things you truly want to create, rather than simply learning entrepreneurial or business skills.
