As an Indeterminate Moving Body / To Displace the World's Orbit
What is editing? Perhaps it isn't creating something from zero, but rearranging what already exists together with others, searching for the words that will become the next foothold. In 2026, working from that hypothesis, ASIBA held a series of four “semi-open editorial meetings.” We tried rearranging things under four agendas — play, public, temporary, and technology. The many kinds of projects practiced over these three years; the thinking of the people who gather within the ever-shifting outline of something called a collective — these become the foothold for the next orbit. A research note compiling the record of that practice and dialogue.

FIG.1
ASIBA is an entity where people with diverse skills and knowledge come together to form a cyborg-like collective. We create things that cannot be done alone—or would take too long to realize—by collaborating with like-minded members from different fields. As a result, we are moving forward while overcoming challenges such as age, the youth of our team, and time constraints.
This book not only documents the process of how teams have been formed and projects created to date but also embodies that process. Not everything goes smoothly. Tensions can arise at times. Through the production of this book and our rebranding efforts, we have once again come to realize that one of our major challenges is how to continue to resist and maintain balance (in a positive sense) in order to keep envisioning a world that we believe is the best possible for us right now.

It would be a waste to process three years’ worth of accumulated material on my own, and without feedback from multiple perspectives, it would simply rot away. Since we don’t yet have enough material to spark discussion through a full “public” release, we’ll first take a look back at our journey so far through a “semi-public” format.By projecting each project onto the four agendas—Play, Public, Provisional, and Daily Life—what kinds of questions can we sculpt from them? The abstract questions that emerged from this “semi-public editorial meeting” experiment are like a “illegal dumping” of words about the future by the various people surrounding the ASIBA collective—and that is precisely why “editing” them is so rewarding. How will the practices and ideas that have accumulated in such a dynamic manner connect to the contexts of architecture, design, and society ? We held four “meetings” in Kameido to discuss such visions for ASIBA’s future and documented them as a zine.
