Nijo Architecture

A project offering anyone a low-barrier opportunity to try something new, staged around the town. It customizes and rents out a small space about the size of “two tatami mats” — the bed of a mini-truck — matched to what each user wants to do. So far, it has supported a wide range of uses: an exhibition at an elementary school in Kanagawa, a tea ceremony and bubble event on the street, a mobile exhibition for an artist, and more. From test openings before setting up a storefront, to experiments in creative expression, Nijo Architecture delivers a “first step” for anyone who wants to start something in an outdoor space. You can go out into the town and take on a challenge without a fixed location or a large upfront investment — this is a practice of mobile architecture that supports that small but certain first step.
